How a coach can maximize his communication with the players in his team

As a coach, you must be a verbal leader for your players to work as a team, develop professional skills and perform efficiently. You should lead by example and the best way to achieve this is through effective communication.
There are some ways you can maximize communication with players on your team:

Establish an open line of communication:
A coach plays a very crucial role in a basketball team. You should have an open line of communication with your players so that they feel free to come to you whenever they have an issue to talk about. You should build trust with your players and establish an emotional bond so that they can raise their issues easily at all times.

Tell them to acknowledge criticism:
Most players do not like being criticized on what they did wrong. As a coach it is your responsibility to make your players understand that criticism is very helpful because it will encourage them work on their weaknesses and become best at what they do.

Teach them proper body language:
To make sure that your players always listen to what you are telling them and take it seriously, teach them the right body language. Tell them to be looking at you in the eye whenever you are communicating to them.

Be honest and tell them the truth:
Even if it means confronting the players on something that will improve their skills and performance, do so but in a professional way. Use “compliment sandwich” approach when correcting a player by commenting about something positive the player did, state the correction, and then restate the positive comment again.

Meet your players regularly: despite other means of communications, meeting your players in person is very important and you should do so regularly.
Always comment positive things they are doing and give them great hopes ahead in relation to their basketball career and to their life in general.
